PAINT YOUR WAY TO A REDUCED CARBON FOOTPRINT!

PAINT YOUR WAY TO A REDUCED CARBON FOOTPRINT!
22/10/2014

In conjunction with one of our key paint and coatings supplier, Thos Storey have been carrying out trials of a revolutionary direct-to-steel wet paint. The patented, semi-gloss, polyaspartic, primer finish has proven to be very easy to apply and cures without the requirement for stoving!

Over the past few months we have carried out trials on various shapes and thicknesses of steel to gauge the performance of this paint, and the overall finish has been more than satisfactory.

For any of you who have the responsibility for your company’s VOC (solvent) output, you’ll understand that it’s a constant battle to ensure that the paint you use has suitably low VOC emissions to meet the various, and ever changing, laws governing this.  The solvent levels in this new paint are, on average, three times lower than standard primer finishes.

An additional benefit of this paint (and one that shows an immediate payback) is its rapid cure ability even at low temperatures.  This has meant that not only do we no longer have to oven bake products painted with this paint (therefore reducing our gas consumption), but we gain greater throughput by freeing up the ovens for traditionally painted product.

Therefore, if we were able to adopt a large-scale use of this type of paint, we believe that our carbon footprint could improve by around 10% and our VOC emissions reduce by an incredible 30%!

We plan to carry on the trials of this paint to ensure that it is indeed as good as our initial tests seem to show that it is.  Going forward, we would welcome discussions with any of our customers or contacts regarding this paint, and if you would like us to coat your products in this paint, or you are interested in using it yourselves, please let us know.
